Migration Mainline

One of my mantras in bird painting is:  I never count the feathers in the wings—I just count the wings.  Had I not employed this approach, faced with this concentration of different birds, I would have had to adopt it for this painting.  How else to express the intersecting and overlapping of the more than 400 species of birds that pass this unique place in migration?  Some go north and south in the same plumages, some change for the return trip, others only go north, still others only go south.  In short, Cape May is the birding hotspot of North America.
