Leonardo Marina

Birding Highlights

The Leonardo State Marina is another place to view loons, grebes, and waterfowl.  The area just west of the marina should improve as habitat in the future and has already attracted passerines including Orange-crowned Warbler and other migrants.  A Barrow’s Goldeneye was found offshore once.

Directions

The turns for the Leonardo State Marina are marked, whether you are driving east or west on Rt. 36.

  • From the Sandy Hook direction (about 4.5 miles), the exit is the Leonard Ave. one.
  • Coming from the west, you will instead make the turn shortly after the Hosford Ave. exit (about 8.25 miles from the Garden State Parkway). You end up on Leonard Ave. either way.
  • The turns from there to the marina are marked, but essentially you should watch for a left turn onto Center St. (a stop sign) and then a right on Concord.
