Honeywell Institute for Ecosystems Education
FIELD STUDIES IN THE HACKENSACK WATERSHED
For Middle and High School Educators
in the Hackensack Watershed

Monday, August 18 – Friday, August 22, 2008

CLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION FORM - Deadline for Registration is June 6, 2008

Today, issues such as energy, water, waste management, air quality and habitat protection are among the most prominent discussions in the media, business and politics.  As individuals, we owe it to future generations to protect the environment. As educators, we have a unique opportunity to help children become tomorrow’s environmental stewards.

The New Jersey Audubon Society (NJAS) and Honeywell have partnered to create an exciting, week-long program, the Honeywell Institute for Ecosystems Education, for science and social studies middle and high-school teachers. The program offers in-depth experiences that use inquiry as a basis for building effective field studies. By connecting the classroom to the real world, teachers can help students become more aware of the world around them, take an active role is preserving
their local environments and acquire the critical thinking, problem solving and basic life skills to be informed global citizens.

For nearly 50 years, NJAS has been providing experiential learning to New Jersey students and teachers. In 2007 alone, NJAS’ educators and naturalists taught more than 34,000 students and 1,000 teachers. The Honeywell Institute for Ecosystems Education program will model lessons and teaching techniques for classroom use, practice using appropriate technology associated with field study, and provide an opportunity for teachers to develop methods for integrating natural system studies into their existing curriculum.

As one of the world’s leading technology companies, Honeywell is committed to inspiring the next-generation of scientists, inventors, engineers and technologists. Through Honeywell Hometown Solutions Global Education Programs, the company has connected students from universities around the world to Nobel Laureates, sponsored nearly 700 teachers from 35 countries to participate in our space academy program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and brought our traveling science hip-hop education program to more than 140,000 middle schools throughout 38 states and Canada.

The Honeywell Institute for Ecosystems Education is limited to 28 participants.
Participants must register by June 6, 2008.

Thank you for joining us as we work to provide creative programs that enhance teachers skills to engage students in the classroom  and inspire our next-generation to shape their future environments.
