Sandy Hook, Friday, May 17, 2013 with Scott Barnes
The highlight of my weekly "Half Day Fridays" bird walk at Sandy Hook today was an extremely cooperative male Bay-breasted Warbler along raccoon alley. The bird was an active flock of warblers feeding just south of the fork where the bike path and road to nowhere meet. Also in that flock were Blackpoll, several Black-throated Greens, Magnolias, and Northern Parulas.
Other birds noted today at the hook (but not seen on the walk) included a fly-by Marbled Godwit at plum island, Least Bittern calling at north pond, an Olive-sided Flycatcher along Atlantic Drive, and Blackburnian, Wilson's, and Canada Warblers.
