Paradigm:
Sustaining healthy forests in the NJ Pine Barrens is
essential to the preservation of the Pine Barrens
ecosystem. Proactive management of forest health issues will take place through
planning and implementation of forest stewardship activities.
Mission of the Pine Barrens Stewardship Council:
To identify and/or promote sustainable conservation
practices by bringing together stakeholders, agencies, and industry to identify
practical and replicable actions that will improve the health of the NJ Pine
Barrens.
Goals:
-Improve populations of native plants, animals and natural
communities in the Pinelands
-Inform resource managers and the public about forest
management issues
-Coordinate the activities of a diverse group of advocates
for the Pinelands as well as public and private stakeholders
Ecosystem Management
Goals strive to:
1) maintain viable populations of all native species in
place
2) protect native ecosystem types
3) maintain processes such as disturbance regimes,
hydrologic processes, and nutrient cycles
4) long-term management
5) accommodate human use within the constraints established
by the other four goals.
Objectives:
Identify barriers to the management activities that create
and sustain healthy forests in the NJ Pine Barrens, prioritize identified
issues, create a plan of action to the deal with high priority issues, and
implement a plan of action in a coordinated and strategic manner.
