You are invited to visit the
Montclair Hawk Lookout this Fall
in celebrating the 50th
consecutive count of migrating birds of prey.

This is the
second oldest hawk watch in the nation, next to venerable Hawk
Mountain which has been conducting counts since 1936. The
Lookout is located on the First Watchung Mountain on the border
of Montclair and Cedar Grove, and offers a spectacular view of
hawks as they migrate in the skies above New Jersey, and of the
landscape below that encompasses the New York City skyline.
Since its founding in 1957, some
783,770 migrating raptors have been counted at the Montclair
Hawk Watch. The table below shows the total and season averages
for the past 25 years:

A number of trips have been scheduled to the Lookout this
season (see the
Autumn calendar for details), but if you are
unable to make one of the trips, you are welcome to come at any
time during the season to join in the celebration of flight.
The Lookout is open daily, weather permitting, from September 1
through November 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
