Cape May Rare Bird Alert - 4/6/2007
You have reached the Cape May Birding Hotline, a service of New Jersey Audubon Society?s Cape May Bird Observatory. This week?s message was prepared on Friday April 6, 2007. Highlights this week include sightings of WHITE-WINGED DOVE, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, FOX SPARROW and WHIP-POOR-WILL.

The WHITE-WINGED DOVE, originally found on 3/30, was last reported to the Northwood Center on 4/3. There has been no report of this bird since. It is suggested that you walk the entirety of Knox Ave. as the bird has been seen near or just past the intersection of Knox Ave. and Pearl Ave. Look on the ground for the bird feeding, as well; look in the trees as this is where the bird has been observed numerous times.

BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER arrived in the Cape May area this week. Reports were from Higbee?s Beach, the Beanery and Belleplain State Forest.

On 3/31, the PECTORAL SANDPIPER seen on 3/30 continued at the Cape May Point State Park.

A lone FOX SPARROW was seen at the back feeders of the Northwood Canter, in Cape May Point, on 4/4.

Lastly, another spring arrival; a WHIP-POOR- WILL was reported from Eldora in Cumberland County on 4/3.


The Northwood Center will be closed from Saturday 4/7- Wednesday 4/11. The Center for Research and Education, in Goshen, will be closed on Sunday 4/8 and Monday 4/9.
