Cape May Rare Bird Alert - 8/16/2001
You have reached the Cape May Birding Hotline, a service of New Jersey Audubon Society's Cape May Bird Observatory. Highlights for the week ending August 16 include CURLEW SANDPIPER, other bird news, and news of CMBO.

A Curlew Sandpiper continues at Stone Harbor Point (SHPt), seen as recently as August 14. The shorebirds at SHPt can best be viewed around the time of high tide, especially the incoming tide.

A MARBLED GODWIT was seen again this week on August 14 in the back bay from the Skimmer, a back bay tour boat. One was also at Brig on the 13th. Additionally at Brig were BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, and five RED-NECKED PHALAROPES on the 12th and Wilson's Phalarope on the 13th.

There was a decent movement of migrant songbirds on the 14th and 15th including WORM-EATING, BLACKBURNIAN, CHESTNUT-SIDED, BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS, and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS at Higbee Beach. WARBLING VIREO was present on the 15th. Empidinax flycatchers were also on the move with LEAST FLYCATCHER, WILLOW FLYCATCHER and ALDER FLYCATCHER all reported. At least 75 EASTERN KINGBIRDS were at Higbee on the 15th.
