This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Friday January 23, 2015 with reports of PINK-FOOTED GOOSE, BARNACLE GOOSE, TRUMPETER SWAN, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, THICK-BILLED MURRE, DARK-EYED "OREGON" JUNCO, seasonal and local reports of interest.

The PINK-FOOTED GOOSE continues this week in Wall Twp, Monmouth County, most often seen in fields along Allaire Rd (Rte. 524), Bailey's Corner Rd, or 18th Avenue.

A BARNACLE GOOSE was seen in the Ramapo River along Halifax Rd in Bergen County Jan 17.

Three TRUMPETER SWANS (presumably the same birds seen at Assunpink WMA until the lake froze up) were found at Hamilton/Trenton Marsh off the end of Sewell Ave in Hamilton Jan 20.

A female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen from the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River opposite Phillipsburg, NJ; the bird might be present in NJ waters or viewable from the jersey side.

A THICK-BILLED MURRE was found off Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach Jan 19.

An "Oregon" DARK-EYED JUNCO was found at a backyard in Newfield, Gloucester County this week.

COMMON REDPOLLS spread into New Jersey this week, with sightings from many parts of the state. Barnegat Light had 30-50 birds Jan 17 and 20 Common Redpolls were found at the opposite end of Long Beach Island at Holgate the same day. Six Common Redpolls were found at Sandy Hook Jan 19; smaller numbers were found this week at Losen Slote in Bergen County, the birch grove near the interpretive center at Liberty State Park, Round Valley Reservoir, and Spruce Run Reservoir.

Sussex County reports were of 4 ICELAND GULLS and 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS at the Sussex County Landfill in Lafayette, and at Wallkill River NWR ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and 3 SHORT-EARED OWLS were noted Jan 15.

Hudson County sightings this week included a drake EURASIAN WIGEON in Newark Bay at Old Tressel, a continuing juvenile NORTHERN GOSHAWK and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER at Liberty State Park, and SHORT-EARED OWL and SNOWY OWL at Ocean Terminal.

In Somerset County, a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was last reported at Duke Island Park Jan 16, and 8 SANDHILL CRANES continue in Franklin Twp. along Randolph Rd or at the nearby cornfields near the intersection of Mettler/Weston Roads.

Middlesex County sightings were of a drake EURASIAN WIGEON at the Perth Amboy Yacht Club and an adult BLACK-HEADED GULL at Raritan Bayshore Waterfront Park in South Amboy Jan 17.

Sandy Hook had 75 SNOW BUNTINGS, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, and a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW off the end of the fisherman's trail Jan 19. Also in Monmouth County along the north shore were EURASIAN WIGEON and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL in Shark River Estuary.

The Trenton Sewage Authority continued to host un-seasonal birds this week, with NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, PINE WARBLER, and PALM WARBLER. At the Rte. 295 overlook on the Delaware River in Mercer County, a female LONG-TAILED DUCK and ICELAND GULL were noted this week.

The ROSS'S GOOSE was seen again at Marshall's Pond in Toms River Jan 16. Also in Ocean County was the continuing hen KING EIDER at Barnegat Inlet.

Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR had a SNOWY OWL this week, and a first-cycle BLACK-HEADED GULL was there Jan 22.

Franklin Parker Preserve in Chatsworth had a light-morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, the continuing SEDGE WREN, AMERICAN PIPIT, 4 PALM WARBLERS, and 8 PINE WARBLERS Jan 17. Also in Burlington County, Florence hosted several LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, ICELAND GULL, and GLAUCOUS GULL Jan 17.

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was noted at Featherbed Lane in Sharptown, Salem County Jan 20.
