Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 1/27/2005
This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday January 27, 2005 with reports of PAINTED BUNTING, EURASIAN WIGEON, SNOWY OWL, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, seasonal and local reports of interest and announcements.

A female PAINTED BUNTING was photographed at a feeder in Eatontown Jan 23 but has not been seen since.

A drake EURASIAN WIGEON was sighted again at Sandy Hook Jan 24 on the north side of Spermaceti Cove. Also at the hook that day were 21 HORNED LARKS, 5 FOX SPARROWS, and several hundred BLACK SCOTERS and SURF SCOTERS off parking area B.

A Greater WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found at Manasquan Reservoir Jan 25.

North Shore reports included 4 TUNDRA SWANS and 3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS at Shark River Estuary and RAZORBILL at Manasquan Inlet this week.

A SNOWY OWL was observed on the roof of the main office building at Island Beach State Park Jan 22.

Round Valley Reservoir hosted a LONG-TAILED DUCK and HORNED GREBE Jan 21.

The Alpha Grasslands (Oberly Road) had a flock of 200 HORNED LARKS, 6 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK Jan 27. A VESPER SPARROW was seen there Jan 21. Nearby Merrill Creek Reservoir had 2 REDHEADS the same day.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was viewed at Van Campen's Inn just north of Peters Valley in the Delaware Water Gap NRA Jan 25.
