This is the voice of NJ Audubon for Wednesday October 10 at 2:00 p.m. with reports of a briefly seen WOOD STORK, plus ROSS'S GOOSE, NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED and LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, PINE SISKIN, PURPLE FINCH, and other seasonal reports of interest.
A WOOD STORK was reported flying over the Raritan River October 5, seen from Route 9 near Raritan Center. No reports since.
A ROSS'S GOOSE was seen over Brigantine/Forsythe NWR with a flock of Snow Geese on October 6. Also at Brig on the 6th were AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, VESPER SPARROW, point-blank AMERICAN BITTERN at the Gull Pond, and numerous DUCKS including an estimated 6,000 NORTHERN PINTAILS.
Sandy Hook on October 9 had NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED, LINCOLN'S and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, PINE SISKIN overhead, 6 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS, and lots of short-distance migrants.
DeKorte State Park in Lyndhurst October 7 and 9 had a few shorebirds including SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and 85 YELLOWLEGS, plus LINCOLN'S and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS along the Transco Trail near the parking lot.
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman-Hoffman Sanctuaries October 9 and 10 had LINCOLN'S SPARROW at and around the feeders, plus expected October migrants including PURPLE FINCH, WINTER WREN, SAPSUCKER, BROWN CREEPER, HERMIT THRUSH, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, and a few WARBLERS including many BLACKPOLLS, TENNESSEE, NASHVILLE, BLACK-THROATED BLUE and BLACK-THROATED GREEN, all mostly around the Hoffman building
