Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 10/20/1999
This is the voice of New Jersey Audubon for Wed. Oct 20 with reports of RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, VESPER SPARROW, NELSON'S SHARP TAILED SPARROW, MARBLED GODWIT, RED-NECKED GREBE, raven, seasonal arrivals and local reports of interest.

A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was at Rosedale Park near Pennington on the Lake Oct. 17.

RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continue on Pleasant Plains Road in Great Swamp.

Sandy Hook Oct. 16-18 had RED-HEADED WOODPECKER on the pole in area K; Nelson's sharptails at the end of Plum Island; VESPER SPARROW at North Beach Pavilion; rough-leg briefly on Plum Island.

BALD EAGLES were reported at Manasquan Reservoir and also in Jackson Twp. On Rte. 527

Tuckerton Oct 18 had NELSON'S SHARPTAILED SPARROWS, SEDGE WREN, AMERICAN BITTERN and RED-THROATED LOON.

Brig. Oct 18 had lots of YELLOWLEGS and DUNLIN, a few DOWITCHERS, numbers of WESTERN SANDPIPERS, and 4 MARBLED GODWITS.

Merrill Creek Reservoir Oct 19 had RED-NECKED GREBE, BONAPARTE'S GULL, RAVEN, PEREGRINE and COMMON LOON. The Peregrine was observed capturing and eating an Oldsquaw!

Overpeck Oct 19 had 28 pipits and 6 E. MEADOWLARKS on the ballfield.

PINE SISKINS and PURPLE FINCHES were widely reported this week.
