Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 10/22/1997
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed, Oct 22 with reports of VIOLET GREEN SWALLOW, HUDSONIAN GODWITS, MARBLED GODWITS, EVENING GROSBEAK, PINE SISKIN, RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, EURASIAN WIGEON, and seasonal and local reports.

A VIOLET GREEN SWALLOW was seen at the Cape May Hawkwatch/Bunker Pond area Oct 17, and again Oct 19 over the South Cape May Meadow, the second such occurrence in recent years. POMARINE and PARASITIC JAEGERS were reported off Cape May Point State Park Oct 19.

About 12 MARBLED and 4 HUDSONIAN GODWITS were at Brigantine Island Oct 18, in the same area where they have been in recent autumns and winters.

In the strong easterly winds Oct 19, a large GANNET flight occurred very close to shore along Sandy Hook and in Raritan Bay.

A EURASIAN WIGEON was at Shadow Lake, Stevenson Park in Lincroft (Monmouth County) Oct 16. Another has been seen in Cape May between Lily Lake and Bunker Pond.

EVENING GROSBEAK was a flyby over Scherman Hoffman Oct 21. Six more EVENING GROSBEAKS and a flock of PINE SISKINS were over Tewksbury this week also, and EVENING GROSBEAKS were also over Sparta this week as well.

An imm. BALD EAGLE was on Oradell Res. Oct 17.

RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, up to five birds, continue on Pleasant Plains Road in the dead trees near the closed bridge and in the heronry. Another was at Tewksbury this week.
