Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 10/3/1990
This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Wednesday, October 3, 1990, at 3:45 PM, with reports of BROWN BOOBY, PURPLE GALLINULE, WESTERN KINGBIRD, CLAY-COLORED and LARK SPARROWS, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, MARBLED GODWIT, GOLDEN PLOVER, CONNECTICUT WARBLER, LINCOLN'S SPARROW, and local and seasonal reports of interest. BROWN BOOBY was reported flying over Sandy Hook on September 26 flying from the ocean towards the bay. It was not found subsequently. An immature PURPLE GALLINULE was reported at Sandy Hook's North Pond on September 30. Thus far, no further reports. Also at Sandy Hook on September 29, two CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS-- one at the concrete platform on Plum Island, the other at the end of the campground road. A WESTERN KINGBIRD was also seen Sept. 29 at Sandy Hook flying along parking area L. None of these birds were present Monday Oct. 1. Also at Sandy Hook Oct. 1, CONNECTICUT WARBLER and BLUE GROSBEAK at the garden; WHITE-CROWNED, WHITE-THROATED and SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS; also seen, RUSTY BLACKBIRD and PIPIT. At Cape May Sept. 27 a WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen over the second field at Higbee, and on Oct 1 there was a good flight of 25 warbler species and PHILADELPHIA VIREO at Higbee. At Island Beach State Park Sept. 29-30 there was a LARK SPARROW in the Maintenance Yard; also there, LINCOLN'S SPARROW, MONK PARAKEET and PEREGRINE. LINCOLN'S SPARROW were also at the end of Spring Valley Way in Lyons Sept 30. 4 WINTER WRENS were reported in the Bernards-Lyons area this week. CONNECTICUT WARBLER was reported in Edison Municipal Park Oct. 1. Chimney Rock on Sept. 27 had 2 COOPER'S HAWKS and a BALD EAGLE; BLACK VULTURES were reported over Dover on Rt. 10 on Sept. 29.
