This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed., Oct. 30 with reports of
FRANKLIN'S GULL, SWAINSON'S HAWK, SANDHILL CRANE, AM. WHITE PELICAN,
SEDGE WREN, GOLDEN EAGLE, EURASIAN WIGEON, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL,
MARBLED GODWIT and seasonal and local reports. A FRANKLIN'S GULL was
reported at Barnegat Inlet on Oct. 27, withoutplumage details. A SWAINSON'S
HAWK was seen Saturday and Sunday Oct. 26 and 27 at Cape May Point and
at Hidden Valley, and a SWAINSON'S HAWK flew over the hawkwatch in Cape
May Point State Park on Oct. 27. Two AM. WHITE PELICANS were at Lily lake in
Cape May on Oct. 27.
A SEDGE WREN was discovered in Salem on the lower Mannington
marshes on Rte. 49 behind a tire store a short distance west of the
bridge into Salem and the Bald Cypress. A male EURASIAN WIGEON was
at Thompson Park, Lincroft Oct. 25. GOLDEN EAGLES were reported at
Fairview Farm Oct. 24, Chimney Rock Oct. 29, and 4 at Merrill Creek
Oct. 26, where PINE SISKINS were also seen overhead. Round Valley
Oct. 26 had both LOONS and overhead SISKINS. Boonton had 20 SNOW
BUNTINGS overhead at the hawkwatch on Oct. 27.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was on the beach in front of the new
gazebo at Union Beach Oct. 27, with GREAT BLACK-BACKED and HERRING
GULLS. The MARBLED GODWITS continue in the Absecon Inlet area; On
Oct. 26 there were 35 of them on Brigantine Island visible from
Rte. 87 on the left after crossing the bridge. Brig on Oct. 26-27
had up to 100 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, mostly on the North Dike. At
Tuckerton Oct. 26, near the end of the road by the Coast Guard
station, two NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED and 10 SALTMARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS were
seen in comparison.
Birds widely reported moving this week included RUDDY DUCK,
E. BLUEBIRD, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW, and PURPLE FINCH.
