A LE CONTE'S SPARROW was reported from the Wallkill River NWR's Liberty Loop area Oct 26. One hundred fifty AMERICAN PIPITS were also in the area. Other Sussex County reports included 2 GOLDEN EAGLES at Sunrise Mountain Oct 26 and at Kittattinny Valley State Park 30 AMERICAN PIPITS and a VESPER SPARROW were noted this week.

The drake EURASIAN WIGEON continues through Oct 25 at Stephen R Gregg Park in Bayonne. Reports from nearby Liberty State Park this week included PECTORAL SANDPIPER, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and 2 VESPER SPARROWS Oct 25; on Oct 28 four VESPER SPARROWS and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were noted and on Oct 29 eight VESPER SPARROWS were tallied.

Two VESPER SPARROWS were found along Disposal Rd at the DeKorte Environment Center in Lyndhurst Oct 27. A very late PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was banded at Harrier Meadow (restricted access) Oct 28.

Troy Meadows hosted 11 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS (six adults and 5 juveniles), 6 VESPER SPARROWS, and 30 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS Oct 26.

Two VESPER SPARROWS And a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were detected at the Tourne in Boonton Oct 25.

Two RED-NECKED GREBES were found on Lake Hopatcong Oct 30.

Duke Farms had 80 AMERICAN PIPITS and 9 VESPER SPARROWS around the community gardens area Oct 29.


Chimney Rock Hawk Watch tallied 2 GOLDEN EAGLES Oct 26; single GOLDEN EAGLES were noted there Oct 25 & 27. Also there Oct 25 was a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER.

The Ernest Oros Wildlife Preserve (aka Woodbridge Riverwatch) continues to host 3+ RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS and 8 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS this week. Also in Middlesex County at the Morgan Ave Mudflats was a SHORT-EARED OWL Oct 29. Sandy Hook sightings this week included a BLUE GROSBEAK near K-lot Oct 24; 2 VESPER SPARROWS around k-lot Oct 25; VIRGINIA RAIL, 2 PARASITIC JAEGERS, and 3 CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS Oct 27; LARK SPARROW north of I-lot Oct 28-30, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and SORA at the north end and an "Oregon" DARK-EYED JUNCO along Raccoon Alley Oct 30.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was found at Carson Rd Woods in Princeton Oct 29.

A WHITE-FACED IBIS was photographed at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR Oct 27. Also there that day was a MARBLED GODWIT.

Taylors Refuge in Cinnaminson Oct 26 had AMERICAN BITTERN, 8 WINTER WRENS, and 9 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and LINCOLN'S SPARROW highlighted birds seen at Supawna Meadows NWR in Salem County Oct 28.
