Island Beach State Park hosted 8 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 70 BROWN PELICANS, AMERICAN BITTERN, and 8 MARBLED GODWITS Oct 4. Three hundred BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 125 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS, 10 CASPIAN TERNS, 15 SALTMARSH SPARROWS, 4 NELSON?S SPARROWS, and 10 SEASIDE SPARROWS were noted on a paddling trip around the Sedge Islands Oct 5.
Great Bay Blvd WMA (Tuckerton) hosted 22 NELSON?S SPARROWS and 2 BROWN PELICANS Oct 5.
Salem County reports Oct 5-6 were of 4 LITTLE BLUE HERONS, 2 SANDHILL CRANES, and COMMON GALLINULE at Mannington Marsh, and 22 CATTLE EGRETS and 4 CAPE MAY WARBLERS at Hancock?s Bridge.
Gloucester County sightings this week included 4 COMMON GALLINULES at Birch Creek Marsh Oct 6; at the National Park Dredge Spoils 30+ PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 6 STILT SANDPIPERS were noted Oct 6.
A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was among 14 species of warblers tallied at Palmyra Cove Oct 5. Also in Burlington County at Eagle Walk/Pinelands Preservation Office in Vincetown Oct 5 were GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, 2 WINTER WRENS, CAPE MAY WARBLER, LINCOLN?S SPARROW and WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. A juvenile MISSISSIPPI KITE was reported over Chatsworth Oct 4.
Three VIRGINIA RAILS and a SEDGE WREN were detected at Dorbrook Park in Colts Neck Oct 6. Also in Monmouth County were 2 SANDHILL CRANES along Burlington Path Rd in Upper Freehold Twp Oct 8.
Two RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen at the Oros Wildlife Refuge along Omar Ave in Woodbridge Oct 3; the birds were in the dead trees in the northwest corner.
Sightings from Glenhurst Meadows this week included 5 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 11 species of warblers including CONNECTICUT WARBLER, and VESPER SPARROW.
A juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON continues at the Jefferson Rd pond in Parsippany through Oct 8.
Troy Meadows hosted 5 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, and TENNESSEE WARBLER Oct 5.
Liberty State Park birds this week included an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and PECTORAL SANDPIPER Oct 7, two TENNESSEE WARBLERS, NASHVILLE WARBLER, and LINCOLN?S SPARROW Oct 8, and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER Oct 9.
Two VESPER SPARROWS were noted at DeKorte Environment Center in Lyndhurst Oct 6. Also in the NJ Meadowlands were SORA and 2 NELSON?S SPARROWS at Mill Creek Marsh and another SORA at Mill Creek Point Oct 6.
Garret Mountain had a calling EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL, 4 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS, 2 WINTER WRENS, 11 species of warbler, BLUE GROSBEAK, and RUSTY BLACKBIRD Oct 5.
Sussex County reports included a RUFFED GROUSE, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, and 4 LINCOLN?S SPARROWS along Van Ness Rd in Sandyston Twp Oct 6. At Kittatinny Valley State Park TENNESSEE WARBLER, LINCOLN?S SPARROW, and 100+ RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were found Oct 5. A SANDHILL CRANE was seen on the jersey side of the Liberty Loop trail at Wallkill River NWR Oct 8.
