with reports of LONG-BILLED CURLEW, SWAINSON'S HAWK, GOLDEN EAGLE,
LITTLE GULL, CAVE SWALLOW, NORTHERN SHRIKE, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, seasonal
and local reports of interest and announcements.
Up to 5 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, SWAINSON'S HAWK, and 4 CAVE SWALLOWS
were found in Cape May this week. The LONG-BILLED CURLEW continued at
Stone Harbor -- call the CMBO Hotline for details.
Two AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were found at Brig Nov 9-10 along with 100+
TUNDRA SWANS. A late WILSON'S PHALAROPE was near the gull pond tower
Barnegat Light State Park had BROWN PELICAN, 3 COMMON EIDERS, PURPLE
SANDPIPER, 10 SNOW BUNTINGS, and 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS Nov 10.
Island Beach State Park Nov 7-10 hosted WHITE-WINGED SCOTER,
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, 2
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, and PINE SISKIN.
An adult LITTLE GULL was observed off the end of the fisherman's trail
at Sandy Hook Nov 11. Up to 90 SNOW BUNTINGS have been in the dunes
there this week. A juvenile NORTHERN GOSHAWK was found at North Pond
Nov 11. Three VESPER SPARROWS were found Nov 9. Other species found at
the hook this week were a SORA at North Pond, BALD EAGLE, RUSTY
BLACKBIRD, PINE SISKINS, and 400 NORTHERN GANNETS and all three Scoters
off Parking Area C.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was observed at Kittatinny Valley State Park in
Sussex County Nov 10 at the Twin Lakes Boat Launch parking lot off
Birds at the Schiff Nature Preserve in Mendham Nov 11 included
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and 10 FOX SPARROWS. Nearby Scherman-Hoffman
Wildlife Sanctuary had a PINE SISKIN at the feeders Nov 12.
Two VESPER SPARROWS were found at the Tourne in Boonton Nov 7.
Chimney Rock had 3 GOLDEN EAGLES, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, and COMMON RAVEN
Raccoon Ridge had a good hawk flight Nov 7-8 with up to 10 BALD EAGLES,
9 GOLDEN EAGLES, 39 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, 884 RED-TAILED HAWKS, and 4
Wallkill River NWR Nov 8 hosted 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 2 SHORT-EARED
OWLS, and an AMERICAN BITTERN.
A late BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was found in Mad Horse Creek WMA Nov
Parking Area B (Bayberry Beach lot) at Sandy Hook is currently closed
