This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon Society, update for Saturday, Nov. 16, 1991 at 6:15 pm with reports of LECONTE'S SPARROW, SNOWY OWLS, RED CROSSBILLS, NORTHERN SHRIKES, HARLEQUINS, LITTLE GULL, EARED GREBE, WESTERN KINGBIRD, COMMON JAEGER, PARASITIC JAEGER, & EURASIAN WIGEON.
A LECONTE'S SPARROW was reported from the southern end of Overpeck Park on the west side of the creek in Ridgefield Park, on Friday Nov. 15, at 8 AM. It was not found Saturday morning Nov. 16, but could still be there. Reach the area from Rt. 46 east; take the exit at I-95 south, Teaneck Rd., and follow Teaneck Rd. and the signs for "Theatres" and "Challenger Rd." to Challenger Rd. Turn left on Challenger Rd. and take it to the end in the park. Also there, GRASSHOPPER SPARROW.
A SNOWY OWL was in Franklin Lakes, Bergen Cty., Nov. 14, on a pole at Ramapo School, off Ewing Ave., near NJ Audubon Headquarters. The Sandy Hook SNOWY OWL was seen Nov. 13, was not seen Nov. 16 at least as of 1 PM. The imm. NORTHERN SHRIKE at Sandy Hook was seen on Nov. 16, between parking areas C and D on the bayside in the tops of the dead trees. Another SNOWY OWL was at Barnegat Light on Nov. 14 beyond the fence in the construction area; not seen on Nov. 15. Three HARLEQUIN DUCKS were also seen at Barnegat along the new jetty Nov. 15.
A LITTLE GULL was at Manasquan Inlet Nov. 14; lots of KITTIWAKES and GANNETS, and both POMARINE JAEGER and PARASITIC JAEGER were seen at Island Beach State Park on Nov. 15. An EARED GREBE was seen at Sandy Hook at Horseshoe Cove Nov. 9. A WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen at Sandy Hook Nov. 14. An imm. NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen Nov. 15 at Troy Meadows, at the intersection of South Beverwick and Troy Rds. Reach it from Rt. 46 or from Rt. 10. Seven RED CROSSBILLS were in Clinton Township, Hunterdon Cty., at Echo Hill Park, off Lilac Drive. Reach the area from Rt. 31. REDPOLLS were reported this week from Sussex Cty., exact location unknown; EURASIAN WIGEON was reported this week from Merrill Creek Reservoir.
