This is the voice of NJ Audubon for Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1994 at 11:30 AM with reports of WOOD STORK, CAVE SWALLOW, SNOWY OWL, SANDHILL CRANE, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, LECONTE'S SPARROW, GOLDEN EAGLE, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, EURASIAN WIGEON, HARLEQUIN DUCK, and seasonal reports of interest. A WOOD STORK was seen at Cape May Nov. 11; also at Cape May Point up to 4 CAVE SWALLOWS were seen on Nov. 11. A SNOWY OWL was seen Nov. 12 at 3pm on Interstate 78 2 miles west of exit 24. A SANDHILL CRANE was seen Nov. 12 in Salem County on Compromise Rd. at the north end near the farm ponds. At Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park LECONTE'S and SHARPTAILED SPARROWS as well as RUSTY BLACKBIRD were seen during the week. On Nov. 12-13 at Sandy Hook, there were WESTERN KINGBIRD and RUSTY BLACKBIRD at the north parking area, and a late SOLITARY VIREO at the Scout Camp area. At Oberly Road in Alpha, Warren Co., a LAPLAND LONGSPUR and HORNED LARKS were found Nov. 11. At MERRILL CREEK there was a GOLDEN EAGLE Nov. 11. A pair of REDHEADS were at Lake Musconnetcong also Nov. 11. At Brigantine NWR, HUDSONIAN GODWIT and GOLDEN EAGLE were seen from the gull pond tower Nov. 9, also there ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and SHARP-TAILED SPARROW. A HARLEQUIN was off the end of the south jetty at Barnegat Inlet Nov. 9. EURASIAN WIGEON was reported this week both from McCreary Park and from Marconi Road at Shark River Nov. 10-11. A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was on Pleasant Plains Rd. in the Great Swamp, near the north gate on Nov. 12. The Voice of NJ Audubon [(908) 766-2661] is a regular weekly report on birding in New Jersey.
