with reports of "ALLEN'S-TYPE" HUMMINGBIRD, LE CONTE'S SPARROW,
BREWER'S BLACKBIRD, AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, KING EIDER, SANDHILL CRANE,
seasonal and local reports of interest, and announcements.
An "ALLEN'S-TYPE" HUMMINGBIRD, CAVE SWALLOW, LECONTE'S SPARROW, and
BREWER'S BLACKBIRD were seen in Cape May this weekcall the CMBO
Hotline for details.
The AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS remained at Brigantine NWR through Nov 14;
not seen since. Up to 200 TUNDRA SWANS, VIRGINIA RAIL, and GOLDEN EAGLE
were noted there over the weekend.
Three MARBLED GODWITS were viewed from the end of Great Bay Blvd,
Tuckerton Nov 15.
Two HARLEQUIN DUCKS returned to Barnegat Light State Park Nov 16. Also
there were BROWN PELICAN, 100 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, and LAPLAND LONGSPUR.
Island Beach State Park Nov 14-15 had BROWN PELICAN, GOLDEN EAGLE,
NORTHERN GOSHAWK, PARASITIC JAEGER, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 2
SHORT-EARED OWLS, 20 SNOW BUNTINGS, and PINE SISKIN.
A SANDHILL CRANE was found along Bay Avenue in Manahawkin Nov 18
(DeLorme P.59, C-19).
Sandy Hook birds this week included a second-winter LITTLE GULL off
North Beach, 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS over Gunnison, and NORTHERN GOSHAWK
over North Pond Nov 15. Two SHORT-EARED OWLS and 150 SNOW BUNTINGS were
in the dunes east of (to the right) the Salt Pond Nov 16 and a SORA was
heard at North Pond that day. Other migrants at the Hook this week
included AMERICAN PIPITS, 20+ AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 6 FOX SPARROWS,
LAPLAND LONGSPUR, PURPLE FINCH, and PINE SISKIN.
Two KING EIDERS were found at Global Terminal in Bayonne Nov 16.
Warren County reports this week included GOLDEN EAGLE and NORTHERN
GOSHAWK at Merrill Creek Hawkwatch Nov 14; 6 LONG-TAILED DUCKS and a
LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were on the reservoir Nov 16. Nearby Oberly
Road, Alpha had 2-6 LAPLAND LONGSPURS this week, 100+ HORNED LARKS, and
numbers of AMERICAN PIPITS.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was noted at the Spruce Run Reservoir boat launch
Nov 14 and 2 RED-NECKED GREBES were found on Round Valley Reservoir
Sightings from the Wallkill River NWR's Liberty Loop Trail this week
included 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS and CLAY-COLORED SPARROW.
An immature ICELAND GULL and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were noted at the
Sussex County Landfill in Lafayette. The landfill is located on the
west side of Rt. 94 just north of the intersection with Rt. 15.
Raccoon Ridge highlights Nov 13-15 were grand totals of 33 GOLDEN
EAGLES (!), 13 BALD EAGLES, 14 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, 468 RED-TAILED HAWKS,
and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK. Also there were 30 Snow Buntings and Common
