Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 11/29/1995
This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Wed., Nov. 29 with reports of EIDERS, HARLEQUINS, NORTHERN SHRIKES, GOLDEN EAGLE, BALD EAGLE, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, REDHEAD, and seasonal and local reports.

A KING EIDER and a COMMON EIDER, both brown birds, continue along the jetty at Barnegat Light, along with 6 HARLEQUINS. Other birds at Barnegat Light over the Thanksgiving weekend included lingering COMMON TERN, ROYAL TERN, PURPLE SANDPIPER, SURF SCOTER, BLACK SCOTER, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, MERLIN, HORNED LARK, and IPSWICH SPARROW, along with LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL.

Sandy Hook this week has had a drake HARLEQUIN at the Auditorium, SNOW BUNTINGS at the fill south of lot D, REDHEADS and COMMON GOLDENEYE at Spermaceti Cove, and SURF SCOTER, BLACK SCOTER and WHITE-WINGED SCOTER.

NORTHERN SHRIKES this week were seen at Assunpink again, near the model airplane field; at the Montclair hawk lookout Nov. 23; and also near Mt. Holly on Rt. 537. From the instersection of Rts. 206 and 537, take 537 east a mile or so to Folwell Station Rd. Turn left, drive 100 yards to the first field on the left, and park. The bird was sometimes right on the road.

Brigantine this week had BALD EAGLE, GOLDEN EAGLE, 2 EURASIAN WIGEON, AMERICAN PIPIT, IPSWICH SPARROW, TUNDRA SWAN and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK. Great Swamp this week also had BALD EAGLE and GOLDEN EAGLE, both along Pleasant Plains Rd.

Stone Tavern Lake at Assunpink had RED-THROATED LOON on Nov. 23 and 26. Skylands Manor in Ringwood had SAPSUCKER and many RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES. Wanaque Reservoir had COMMON MERGANSER and BALD EAGLE. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was at Morristown Airport Nov. 24.
