Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 11/5/1997
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed Nov 5 with reports of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW, PACIFIC LOON, WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, PARASITIC JAEGER, ICELAND GULL, EIDERS, MARBLED GODWIT, AVOCET, RED-NECKED GREBE, REDHEAD, EVENING GROSBEAK, EURASIAN WIGEON and seasonal and local reports of interest.

The last report of the VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW at tape time was for Wed Oct 29 at Stevens St. west of Bayshore Road in West Cape May near the Beanery. A PACIFIC LOON was reported from Round Valley Reservoir on Oct 30 out to the left of the Wilderness Parking Lot. No report since.

In Cape May Nov 1, there were over 10 PARASITIC JAEGERS and an ICELAND GULL at the State Park; a COMMON EIDER was at the concrete ship and EURASIAN WIGEON at Lily Lake. At the Avalon sea watch Nov 1, there were 8 PARASITIC JAEGERS, 2 RED-NECKED GREBES and 1 KING EIDER. At Brig Nov 3, there were 2 AVOCET and a MARBLED GODWIT.

The WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was still present at Colonial Park in Somerset. EURASIAN WIGEON is still on Shadow Lake, Stevenson Park in Lincroft (Monmouth Co). On Lake Musconetcong Nov 3, a REDHEAD was at Central and Walton in the cove on the Sussex side, and the Lake had 107 PIED-BILLED GREBES and a variety of waterfowl including hundreds of COOT, WIGEON and RUDDY DUCKS, small numbers of CANVASBACK, HOODED MERGANSER and GADWALL, and PIPITS and RUSTY BLACKBIRDS in the park at Port Morris.

PIPITS were also at Roxbury Pond Nov 4, along with a variety of waterfowl. Three EVENING GROSBEAKS were at Merrill Creek reservoir Oct 31. At least three RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continue to store acorns on Pleasant Plains Road at the Gazebo Parking Lot. At least 140 SHOVELERS were on Lake Parsippany Nov 2, with good numbers of RUDDY DUCKS.
