This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Wed., Nov. 8 at
noon with reports of CAVE SWALLOW, ROSS'S GOOSE, NORTHERN
SHRIKES, HENSLOW'S SPARROW, RED-NECKED GREBE, EVENING
GROSBEAK, GOLDEN EAGLE, AVOCET, seasonal and local reports.
A CAVE SWALLOW was reported at Cape May Point Nov. 6, not
HENSLOW'S SPARROW, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and LINCOLN'S
SPARROW were at Higbee Nov. 5.
A ROSS'S GOOSE was in a flock of Snow Geese and Blue Geese
on Rt. 539, near Interstate 195; go through town and check
the millpond near the bridge. Snows and Blues were reported
several places inland this week.
NORTHERN SHRIKES were reported as follows: one on the
northern edge of Round Valley Reservoir Nov. 4 (where the
RED-NECKED GREBE is also still present); another Shrike on
Pleasant Plains Rd., Great Swamp, Nov. 5; TWO on Pleasant
Plains Rd., Nov., fighting with each other; one on Pleasant
Plains Rd. Nov. 8. The Shrike at Thompson Park last week
was not found Nov. 4 through 6.
EVENING GROSBEAK reports came from Merrill Creek, Chimney
Rock, Mendham, Great Swamp, Summit, and Spruce Run, which
also had SNOW BUNTING.
Merrill Creek had a GOLDEN EAGLE and 3 BALD EAGLES on Nov.
5. Chimney Rock Hawkwatch, from Nov. 4 to 6, had 5 GOLDEN
EAGLES, 2 BALD EAGLES, 4 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, 100
RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, a COMMON RAVEN, and 450 hawks total.
Overpeck Park Nov. 6-7 had SHORT-EARED OWL, SNOW BUNTING,
and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER. At Brigantine NWR on Nov. 4,
there were 3 AM. AVOCET, 100 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 275 TUNDRA
SWANS, and 2 BALD EAGLES.
