Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 11/9/1993
This is the voice of NJ Audubon for Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1993 at 2:30 PM with reports of WESTERN GREBE, BREWER'S BLACKBIRD, ROSS'S GOOSE, AVOCET, both GODWITS, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL, ICELAND GULL, EURASIAN WIGEON, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, and local reports. The WESTERN GREBE at Shark River resurfaced Nov. 8 at 11 AM, this time off Marconi Road, where there is also a EURASIAN WIGEON. Another EURASIAN WIGEON was at Franklin Lakes Nov. 7. EURASIAN WIGEON was also reported at Liberty State Park in Jersey City Nov. 8. A BREWER'S BLACKBIRD was back on the horse farm on East Branch Rd. at Assunpink Nov. 7, the same spot as last year. Also there, Pectoral Sandpiper and Horned Lark, and a good variety of ducks on Lake Assunpink. The following birds were at Brigantine (Forsythe) NWR during the period Nov. 3 - 9: ROSS'S GOOSE, AVOCET, MARBLED and HUDSONIAN GODWIT, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, WESTERN SANDPIPER, AM. BITTERN, TUNDRA SWAN, AM. PIPIT, and lots of waterfowl. A WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL appeared at a feeder Nov. 6 on Seventh St. in Frenchtown, one day only. An ICELAND GULL was on a small lake in Roxbury off Rt. 10 near Randolph Park on Nov. 7. A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was at Taylor Lane, Cinnaminson, Nov. 6. A N. GOSHAWK was seen at Pedricktown the same day; a BALD EAGLE was at nearby Mannington Marsh also Nov. 6. A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD female was at the Nuke Road at Salem [Hancock's Bridge] Nov. 6. There were 40 COM. LOONS on Round Valley Reservoir Nov. 6. Thirty EVENING GROSBEAKS were at Scherman-Hoffman Sanctuary Nov. 6. Widely reported this week were BLUEBIRD, PIPIT, PINE SISKIN, FOX SPARROW and PURPLE FINCH. Budd Lake Nov. 7 had OLDSQUAW and BLACK SCOTER. Lake Musconetcong had GOLDENEYE, BUFFLEHEAD, RUDDY DUCK, PIED-BILLED GREBES among other things, also Nov. 7; Lake Parsippany Nov. 7 had SHOVELER, LESSER SCAUP, RUDDY DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD and COM. LOON. 371 RING-NECKED DUCKS were at Wolfe Lake Nov. 3, and also there were HOODED MERGANSERS, Nov. 8. The Voice of NJ Audubon [(908) 766-2661] is a regular weekly report on birding in New Jersey.
