This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Friday February 23, 2012 with reports of EURASIAN WIGEON, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, SNOWY OWL, BLACK-HEADED GULL, NORTHERN SHRIKE, COMMON REDPOLL, seasonal and local reports of interest.

Two GOLDEN EAGLES and a flyover COMMON REDPOLL were noted near the Wallkill River NWR headquarters Feb 19.

The SNOWY OWL continues at Merrill Creek Reservoir through Feb 20, usually found in the rocks below the main dam.

The NORTHERN SHRIKE continues in Boonton Twp this week through Feb 18. Look for the bird at the Johansen Memorial Fields; the bird is often found somewhere around the periphery.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was found at the DeKorte Environment Center in Lyndhurst Feb 20.

Up to 14 REDHEADS were seen through Feb 18 at the pond along Clark Drive in Mount Olive Twp.

A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was noted in Hillsborough Twp along River Rd opposite Duke Island Park Feb 18.

A flock of 20 CACKLING GEESE was found at the Selody Sod Farm along Skillman Rd in Montgomery Twp Feb 19.

The adult BLACK-HEADED GULL continues in the Bonaparte's Gull flock at the Morgan Mudflats through Feb 19. A first-cycle ICELAND GULL was noted Feb 18 and 2 COMMON RAVENS were flyovers there Feb 20. Also in Middlesex County was the continuing drake EURASIAN WIGEON in Perth Amboy Feb 20-21. Look for the bird in the small cove along Water St just south of the Raritan Yacht Club.

Manasquan Inlet continues to host a cooperative RAZORBILL inside the inlet through Feb 20. Two ICELAND GULLS were there Feb 19 and a GLAUCOUS GULL was on the beach south of the inlet the same day. At nearby Lake of the Lilies (Old Sam's Pond) were ICELAND GULL and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL Feb 17.

Barnegat Inlet hosted 2 female KING EIDERS, a GLAUCOUS GULL and RAZORBILL Feb 19.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen over Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR Feb 19. Also there this week were 10 TUNDRA SWANS and a drake EURASIAN WIGEON Feb 18-19. At the other end of Atlantic County in Corbin City WMA 2 EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL, GOLDEN EAGLE, and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK were noted Feb 22.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was found at Palmyra Cove Feb 18. Up to 8 SANDHILL CRANES were noted at Mannington Marsh this week. Also there were 5 CACKLING GEESE Feb 18.
