Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 2/7/1996
This is the voice of NJ Audubon for Wednesday, Feb. 7, 1996, at noon, with reports of GYRFALCON, EIDERS, HARLEQUINS, EAGLES, ICELAND GULL, N. SHRIKE, REDHEAD, COM. REDPOLL, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, seasonal and local reports of interest.

An immature gray phase GYRFALCON was reported at Sandy Hook Feb. 3, last seen heading north. COMMON EIDER, KING EIDER and HARLEQUINS continue at Barnegat Light.

On Feb. 3, there were 10 BALD EAGLES on the upper Delaware, including 5 at Dingman's and 4 at the Gap, and 2 GOLDEN EAGLES 5 miles noth of Dingman's on Rte. 209 on the Pennsylvania side near the pullout at mile marker 19. Also at the Gap were 2 RAVENS, BLACK VULTURE and PILEATED WOODPECKER.

The ICELAND GULL continues at the pond in North Haledon, near NJAS headquarters in Franklin Lakes. NORTHERN SHRIKES this week were reported from Thompson Park, Lincroft; from Pleasant Plains Rd. in Great Swamp; from Warren Glen Road in Stewartsville (Rte 639) near Maple Rd in fields near trailer. The Stewartsville bird is # 56 for the winter in the state so far.

A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was with SNOW BUNTINGS and HORNED LARKS in Moorestown on Centerton Road near the Dairy Farm on manure strips. Two COMMON REDPOLLS were one day only at a Morristown feeder. Two COMMON REDPOLLS appeared at the feeders at Scherman-Hoffman Sanctuaries in Bernardsville on Feb. 7. Seven REDHEADS were on Lake Takannassee and 3 were at Hackensack Meadows Environment Center in Lyndhurst this week.
