This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Wednesday February 29, 2012 with reports of EURASIAN WIGEON, SANDHILL CRANE, GLAUCOUS GULL, NORTHERN SHRIKE, seasonal and local reports of interest, and announcements.

The NORTHERN SHRIKE continues in Boonton Twp this week through Feb 25. Look for the bird at the Johansen Memorial Fields; the bird is often found somewhere around the periphery.

The drake EURASIAN WIGEON continues in Perth Amboy through Feb 26. Look for the bird in the small cove along Water St just south of the Raritan Yacht Club. Across Raritan Bay at the Morgan Mudflats (aka South Amboy) the adult BLACK-HEADED GULL continues sporadically with the BONAPARTE'S GULL flock through Feb 28. Six MONK PARAKEETS were noted in Carteret Feb 26 near the intersection of Washington & High Streets.

Also in Middlesex County was a large mixed-goose flock along John White Rd in Cranbury Twp. Among the flock were 2 CACKLING GEESE and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE Feb 25.

Sixteen CACKLING GEESE and 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were detected at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater Feb 26.

Nineteen REDHEADS were at the Clark Drive Pond in Mount Olive Feb 28.

Spruce Run Reservoir hosted 102 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS and an ICELAND GULL Feb 28.

An immature GLAUCOUS GULL was found at Sandy Hook's Plum Island Feb 26. Other birds noted at the hook this week included 10+ AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, 2 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, BARRED OWL at the scout camp, and 4 FOX SPARROWS.

Manasquan Inlet continues to host a RAZORBILL through Feb 27. An immature GLAUCOUS GULL was noted there Feb 26. An ICELAND GULL was noted at Fisherman's Cove in Manasquan Feb 26.

An early OSPREY was flying over Manahawkin Feb 25.

Seven SANDHILL CRANES were found at Mannington Marsh in Salem County Feb 26.
