Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 3/14/2000
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Tue Mar 14 with reports of Review List TUFTED DUCK, and other reports of winter GULLS, seasonal arrivals and local reports.

The female TUFTED DUCK, was still present Mar 12 on Old Sam's Pond in Point Pleasant.

Florence Mar 13 had 6 ICELAND, 3 GLAUCOUS and at least 22 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS along with two LAUGHING GULLS.

There were several reports of BLACK-HEADED GULLS at the Cape May Ferry, in what is virtually the only flock of BONAPARTE'S GULLS in the state this winter.

ICELAND GULLS were in both Manasquan and Shark River inlets Mar 12. OYSTERCATCHERS were seen at Pews Creek on Raritan Bay and and at Manasquan Inlet Mar 11.

A GLAUCOUS GULL was at Spruce Run boat launch Mar 14, and Round Valley had 150 BUFFLEHEAD and 75 RING-NECKED DUCKS Mar 10.

Trenton Marsh Mar 13 had lots of waterfowl, especially BLACK DUCK, RING-NECKED DUCKS and WOOD DUCKS as well as PINTAIL and GREEN-WINGED TEAL; also lots of MYRTLES, two BROWN CREEPER, a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 25-30 TREE SWALLOWS, and FOX SPARROW.

Scherman-Hoffman had PHOEBE Mar 10. Colliers Mills had a PINE WARBLER Mar 9, and also 3 HORNED GREBES. The CAPE MAY WARBLER continues at the feeder in Columbia as of Mar 13.

Lake Parsippany among other waterfowl Mar 11 had 6 REDHEAD, 6 LESSER SCAUP, 250 RINGNECKS and 350 RUDDY DUCKS.

Widely reported moving this week were BLUEBIRDS, TREE SWALLOW, WOODCOCK, LAUGHING GULL and FOX SPARROW. GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS seem scarce.
