Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 3/27/1997
This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday, March 27, at 5 PM with reports of ROSS'S GOOSE, EURASIAN WIGEON, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, ICELAND GULL, GLAUCOUS GULL, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, RED-NECKED GREBE, and local reports.

A ROSS'S GOOSE was seen at Featherbed Lane, Sharptown, Salem Co., on March 22, but not March 23. A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at the Salem Nuclear Plant entrance road on March 22. A EURASIAN WIGEON was seen March 22-23 at the Rt. 45 bridge crossing at Mannington Marsh.

In Florence, on the Delaware R., Thursday March 20, there were 53 LESSER BLACK-BACKED, 12 ICELAND, & 1 GLAUCOUS GULL. 400 RED-NECKED GREBES were at Riverton on March 21.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was at Brigantine on March 23. LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH hit Belleplain State Forest, Cape May County, on March 23, early. A BALD EAGLE was at Somerset on March 21. PEREGRINE was at Great Swamp NWR March 23, along with RUSTY BLACKBIRD; and a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen on Pleasant Plains Rd., Great Swamp, earlier in the week.

Some 67 RING-NECKED DUCKS were in a pond at the corner of Loantaka and Shunpike Rd., Chatham, March 20. A pair of RAVENS were in Ogdensburg, Sussex Co., March 22. About 5000 SNOW GEESE passed Wildcat Ridge on March 22. WINTER WREN was singing at Scherman Sanctuary, Bernardsville, on March 26-27.

ESCAPES reported in the past ten days include: 2 EGYPTIAN GEESE, probably from the population at Great Adventure, a MANDARIN on Swartswood Lake, and a CHUKAR seen regularly at 25 Independence Blvd in Warren.
