This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday March 29, 2012 with reports of SNOWY OWL, GLAUCOUS GULL, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, seasonal and local reports of interest.

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was found at the Allaire State Park campground Mar 27.

A EURASIAN WIGEON was noted at the Corbin City impoundments of McNamara WMA Mar 25.

Middlesex County reports this week included an ICELAND GULL at the Edison Boat Launch Mar 25 and a GLAUCOUS GULL there Mar 24. Six MONK PARAKEETS were noted off High St in Carteret Mar 24. An ICELAND GULL was seen at the Morgan Ave Mudflats Mar 24 and a first-cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was there Mar 25.

Two ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were found at the DeKorte Environment Center in Lyndhurst Mar 25.

LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES arrived this week in the state: an early individual was found in Bernardsville Mar 23; another LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was noted along Pleasant Plains Road in the Great Swamp Mar 28; and 2 were back at Glassboro Woods WMA Mar 29.

A hybrid sparrow, possibly a Dark-eyed Junco X White-throated Sparrow, was seen at Scherman-Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary in Bernardsville Mar 28.

An excellent count of 200 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS was made at Troy Meadows Mar 25.

An AMERICAN BITTERN was detected at Mary Patrick Park in Mahwah Mar 25.

An ICELAND GULL was found at Spruce Run Reservoir Mar 25.

The SNOWY OWL was still present at Merrill Creek Reservoir below the dam Mar 23.

Early migrants reported this week from various locations around the state included NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, and PALM WARBLER.
