Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 3/3/1999
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for March 3 with reports of Review List TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, and other species including various WINTER GULLS, REDHEAD, EUR. WIGEON, VESPER SPARROW, SHORTEAR, AM. BITTERN, N. GOSHAWK, waterfowl and other arrivals, local reports and an extralimital.

The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE continues on East Point Road, Heislerville, about 1.2 miles beyond Main St. The BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen morning and afternoon in Horseshoe Cove, Sandy Hook Feb. 27, across from Area L parking lot.

Other birds on the North Shore Feb. 27 included two Iceland and an adult GLAUCOUS GULL at Sandy Hook North Beach Pavilion Lot i; a first year GLAUCOUS on Lake Takanassee; 3 REDHEADS at Oceanic Bridge in Rumson with thousands of SCAUP; a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at Manasquan and an ICELAND there March 1; and EURASIAN WIGEON on Wreck Pond.

Elsewhere a VESPER SPARROW was near Money Island Rd. in the town of Salem, and at nearby Mad Horse WMA were FOX SPARROWS, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and TOWHEE, all Feb. 27. Lake Assunpink had 100 COMMON MERGANSERS and Am. Bittern Feb. 24, and CANVASBACKS, RUDDIES and a flock of TREE SWALLOWS March 2. A GOSHAWK was at Union Lake, Millville, Feb. 27.

RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were at the Visual Arts Center in Summit Feb 25. HOODED MERGANSERS and RING-NECKED DUCK were on Pleasant Plains Rd in Great Swamp Feb 27. A SHORT-EARED OWL was at Soldberg Airport Feb 27 at 6 p.m. From Rte. 22, exit south in North Branch on County Line Rd. Continue until the T at the airport, and turn right. If morning, take the first left on Soldberg Rd. If afternoon, take the second left on Lightfield Rd.

In the Meadowlands, there were 300 CANVASBACK in Sawmill WMA Feb 27. Roosevelt Park in Edison on Feb 28 had CANVASBACK, PIED-BILLED GREBE, RUDDY DUCK and RING-NECKED DUCK. Cedar Grove Res. had REDHEAD Feb 27.
