Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 3/5/1997
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed., March 5 with reports of SNOWY OWL, NORTHERN SHRIKE, LITTLE GULL, GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, EUR. GREEN-WINGED TEAL, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS, seasonal and local reports.

The SNOWY OWL continued at Brig in the se corner of the east pool March 2. Also at Brig Mar. 2, one EUR. GREEN-WINGED TEAL. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was in Great Swamp in the field to the right of the driveway into the observation blinds on Long Hill Rd. March 2 and 3. Also March 3 in great Swamp, 36 RINGNECKED DUCK were on the pond at the closed bridge on Pleasant Plains Rd., and 27 Great Blue Herons were already on the nests in the rookery.

Several LITTLE GULLS were seen at Cape May Point Feb. 28. Three GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at Assunpink March 2 along with 4 REDHEADS and 40 RINGNECKS. LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen March 1 at Allentown at the intersection of Rtes. 524 and 539, and March 2 at Dayton, intersection of 522 and 535, both farm fields. As the fog lifted March 2 along Raritan Bay, there was a strong coastal flight of hundreds of BLACKBIRDS and ROBINS, and small numbers of KILLDEER, COWBIRD, BOAT-TAILED GRACKLE and BLUEBIRDS. BLUEBIRDS were widely reported moving throughout the state this week. A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was seen near the Salem Nuclear Plant Feb. 26.
