This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday April 11, 2013 with reports of Pacific Loon, Crested Caracara, Rufous/Allen's Hummingbird, Little Gull, Black-headed Gull, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Red Crossbill, seasonal and local reports of interest.

The PACIFIC LOON on Boonton Reservoir was last reported Apr 6.

The CRESTED CARACARA continues this week through Apr 7 in the cattle pastures near the intersection of Featherbed Lane and Kings Highway in Pilesgrove Twp, Salem County. A ROSS'S GOOSE was found in the SNOW GOOSE flock along Sharptown-Auburn Rd Apr 7 and 2 female YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS continue in that area as well. Two SHORT-EARED OWLS were noted along Featherbed Lane Apr 6. Three SANDHILL CRANES were noted at Mannington Marsh Apr 8.

The RUFOUS/ALLEN'S HUMMINGBIRD continues at the feeder at Palmyra Cove Nature Park through Apr 10. At nearby Taylor's Refuge a RED-NECKED GREBE and 10 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were noted Apr 5.

Two CASPIAN TERNS were noted at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR Apr 7.

Three RED CROSSBILLS were noted at Winding River Park in Toms River Apr 10.

An adult BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen with a flock of BONAPARTE'S GULLS on the Delaware River in Trenton near the sewage treatment plant Apr 10. Also in Mercer County were 2 continuing REDHEADS and 12 BLUE-WINGED TEAL at Trenton Marsh Apr 6.

Fisherman's Cove Park in Manasquan had a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON and SHORT-EARED OWL Apr 6.

Assunpink WMA hosted a RED-NECKED GREBE on the main lake Apr 11.

Morgan Ave Mudflats (South Amboy) reports this week included an adult basic LITTLE GULL through Apr 7, an adult and a first-cycle BLACK-HEADED GULL through Apr 9, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and a "Nelson's Gull" (the latter a hybrid Glaucous X Herring Gull) Apr 5; 50+ HORNED GREBES and 10 NORTHERN GANNETS. Spruce Run Reservoir sightings this week included ICELAND GULL, 3 CASPIAN TERNS Apr 8, and a RED-NECKED GREBE Apr 6. At nearby DeMott Pond in Clinton, a REDHEAD continues through Apr 5.

Liberty State Park had a RED-NECKED GREBE Apr 9 and WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and SOLITARY SANDPIPER Apr 11.

A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was on Lake Tappan Apr 10 and a LONG-TAILED DUCK and BONAPARTE'S GULL were noted there Apr 11.

Sixty RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were tallied at Troy Meadows Apr 7.

LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES were reported back on breeding territories at Scherman-Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary in Bernardsville, Black River WMA, and Allaire State Park. A migrant LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was noted at Garret Mountain this week.
