Two first-cycle BLACK-HEADED GULLS continue this week at the Morgan Mudflats (South Amboy). A NELSON'S GULL (hybrid Glaucous X Herring Gull) was seen again Apr 13. More information about birding this site can be found on the NJ Audubon eBird Portal:
A drake EURASIAN WIGEON was noted at Dorbrook Park in Colts Neck Apr 11.
Garret Mountain had a good flight Apr 14 with NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, 15 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS, 14 EASTERN PHOEBES, 100 HERMIT THRUSHES, 35 BROWN CREEPERS, 2 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, and VESPER SPARROW.
An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was found near the DeKorte Environment Center Apr 16-17. Also in Bergen County Apr 17 were 8 HORNED GREBES and 4 RED-NECKED GREBES on Lake Tappan.
Merrill Creek Reservoir raptors noted Apr 14 included 3 MERLINS, 2 MISSISSIPPI KITES, and 160 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS.
A waterbird fallout at Spruce Run Reservoir Apr 17 included 3 RED-THROATED LOONS, 100+ HORNED GREBES, LONG-TAILED DUCK, SURF SCOTER, CASPIAN TERN, FORSTER'S TERN, and an early COMMON TERN.
Another MISSISSIPPI KITE was reported over the D&R Canal near Landing Lane Apr 15.
Troy Meadows had an impressive flock of 410 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and 2 VIRGINIA RAILS Apr 14.
A RED-NECKED GREBE was on Boonton Reservoir Apr 13. A SURF SCOTER was noted there Apr 17.
A COMMON GALLINULE and SORA were noted at Mannington Marsh this week.
Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR birds noted Apr 14 included BLUE-WINGED TEAL and 6 WHIMBRELS.
VESPER SPARROWS were reported from Dismal Swamp in Middlesex County Apr 13, Great Swamp NWR Apr 14-15, and Liberty State Park Apr 15.
