Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 4/18/2000
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for TUE, APR 18, with reports of GOLDEN EAGLE, LITTLE GULL, EURASIAN WIGEON, seasonal arrivals and local reports of interest.

Three different LITTLE GULLS were at South Amboy Apr 15-16; two adults and one first-year; also there, BLUE-WINGED TEAL and GREEN-WINGED TEAL.

A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen in Basking Ridge on Apr 15 in pursuit of a squirrel.

The EURASIAN WIGEON was seen earlier this week at the Bivalve boardwalks in Cumberland County off Rte 553.

Sandy Hook Apr 15 had at least 3 SORA and AMERICAN BITTERN in North Pond where there was a flock of seasonal migrants including BROWN THRASHER, EASTERN TOWHEE; PALM WARBLERS, PINE WARBLERS and MYRTLE WARBLERS; RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS and BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS; and PIED-BILLED GREBE and COOT on the pond as well. There was a flock of about 80 BONAPARTE'S GULLS on a spit off Plum Island at low tide.

Morristown National Historical Park (Jockey Hollow) had BLUE-HEADED VIREO and LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH Apr 16; Scherman-Hoffman had the same species plus HOUSE WREN, BROADWINGED HAWK and ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW Apr 15-16. There was a good movement of RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS this week.

Over 20 SNIPE, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 50+ GREEN-WINGED TEAL and several NORTHERN SHOVELER were in the HQ pond at Great Swamp on Pleasant Plains Road (a few PIPITS have also been on the edges of this pond); RUSTY BLACKBIRDS are at the heronry, at Woodland Road, and at the fisherman's access off the White Bridge on the Passaic.
