This is Pete Bacinski for the Voice of the NJ Audubon Society for Thursday, April 21, 2011 with reports of TUNDRA SWAN, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, RED-NECKED GREBE, AMERICAN BITTERN, CATTLE EGRET, SWALLOW-TAILED KITE, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, SANDHILL CRANE, ICELAND GULL, GLAUCOUS GULL, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, WHIP-POOR-WILL, COMMON RAVEN, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, VESPER SPARROW, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, PURPLE FINCH, PINE SISKIN and seasonal and local reports of interest.

A flyover SWALLOW-TAILED KITE was discovered at the Sandy Hook Migration-watch April 20 including a large falcon flight with 300+ AMERICAN KESTRELS, while a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was tallied there April 17. Two GLAUCOUS GULLS and an ICELAND GULL were observed at Sandy Hook at North Beach April 15, while two ICELAND GULLS were present there April 17.

Other birds noted at the ?Hook? this week include: AMERICAN BITTERN at North Pond, April 19, three RED-NECKED GREBES at Spermaceti Cove April 18, a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER April 17-18 and calling WHIP-POOR-WILLS at Raccoon Alley April 18-21, a BLUE-WINGED TEAL at the Salt Pond April 19, PURPLE FINCHES on April 18-19 and several PINE SISKINS April 18.

An ICELAND GULL was observed at Wreck Pond in Spring Lake April 17.

The two VESPER SPARROWS continue along the drive to the Helen Fenske Visitor Center off Lees Hill Road at the Great Swamp NWR., April 14, 15 and 19. Another VESPER SPARROW was discovered at the Linden Lane Farm in Warren Twp. April 18.

A COMMON RAVEN was seen flying over the Passaic River at the Falls in Paterson April 20 while 14 PINE SISKINS were recorded at Garret Mountain Reservation the same day.

A RUSTY BLACKBIRD and a hen BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen at the Allendale Celery Farm April 18 and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER was tallied along Creek Road in Tranquility April 18. A group of 16 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were observed at the Stanton Station section of the Hunterdon County Park System on Stanton Station Road off Route 31 south of Clinton April 15.

A SANDHILL CRANE was seen at the Route 45 Bridge at Mannington Marsh April 15. A TUNDRA SWAN was still present at Featherbed Lane near Sharptown April 19 and two CATTLE EGRETS were seen at Money Island Road in Salem April 19.
