This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday April 26, 2012 with reports of "Gray-bellied" BRANT, WHITE-FACED IBIS, SWALLOW-TAILED KITE, LITTLE GULL, EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL, seasonal and local reports of interest.

A WHITE-FACED IBIS and 2 AMERICAN BITTERNS were seen at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR Apr 21. Other birds noted at Brig Apr 22 included 81 WHIMBRELS and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW.
Sandy Hook had a "Gray-bellied" BRANT on the parade grounds Apr 23. Other birds noted at the hook that day were CATTLE EGRET at K-lot, 2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS at the false hook, PROTHONOTARY WARBLER, HOODED WARBLER, and 3 BLUE GROSBEAKS. An early WORM-EATING WARBLER was seen near the rusty barn Apr 22 and a TRICOLORED HERON was noted Apr 21. Two CATTLE EGRETS were fly-bys at the Sandy Hook Migration Watch Apr 24 and a SORA was in north pond Apr 25.
A STILT SANDPIPER was found at Wreck Pond Apr 21.
A SWALLOW-TAILED KITE was photographed over Garret Mountain Apr 20. Other migrants noted there this week included BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, and 6 PURPLE FINCHES.
An EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL was noted inside a grocery store in West Orange Apr 22; the bird eventually made its way out of the store and into a nearby woodlot.
A first-cycle GLAUCOUS GULL and an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were found along the Delaware River in Trenton near the "Trenton Makes" bridge Apr 19.
South Amboy hosted 2 first-cycle LITTLE GULLS Apr 20 and 22. A third-cycle ICELAND GULL was noted there Apr 21 and a first-cycle ICELAND GULL was there Apr 24. More information on birding this site can be found at http://ebird.org/content/nj
Two RED-NECKED GREBES were observed in Caven Cove from Liberty State Park Apr 24.
A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was noted at the Negri-Nepote Grasslands Apr 22.
Hunterdon County reports this week included 4 RED-NECKED GREBES at Round Valley Reservoir Apr 22-23 and a BLACK SCOTER there Apr 21. A SURF SCOTER and RED-THROATED LOON were noted at Spruce Run Reservoir Apr 21.
Great Swamp NWR hosted YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, PRAIRIE WARBLER, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, and ORCHARD ORIOLE Apr 20. An AMERICAN BITTERN and 2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were noted this week in adjacent Lord Stirling Park.
An adult LITTLE BLUE HERON was found at Ledell Pond in Mendham Twp Apr 21.
A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on Swartswood Lake in Sussex County Apr 21. A CERULEAN WARBLER and 2 COMMON RAVENS were noted along Sawmill Rd in High Point State Park Apr 24.
