Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 4/27/1993
This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Tuesday, April 27, 1993, at 2:30 PM, with reports of PURPLE GALLINULE, MARBLED GODWIT, LESSER GOLDEN PLOVER, UPLAND SANDPIPER, seasonal reports, and local reports of interest.

The last sighting of the PURPLE GALLINULE at North Pond, Sandy Hook, was on Thursday April 22. There were good hawk flights at Sandy Hook April 24-25, and PIPING PLOVER and OYSTERCATCHER were in the fenced area at North Beach, about 200 yards north of the corner.

A MARBLED GODWIT was at Tuckerton April 24, and LESSER GOLDEN PLOVER on April 25. The road is now open to the end. UPLAND SANDPIPERS are in at Linvale in Hunterdon Co., on Orchard Rd. off Rt. 31; and also, 3 were at Featherbed Lane, Sharptown, Salem Co., on April 24.

Loons and Cormorants moved in numbers all over the state this week. Big Swartswood Lake in Sussex Co. April 22 had 60 COM. LOONS, one RED-NECKED GREBE, 30 HORNED GREBE, 6 GREATER SCAUP, 6 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 20 BUFFLEHEAD, and 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER.

Migrants at Scherman-Hoffmand in Bernardsville this week were WOOD THRUSH April 24, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, NORTHERN ORIOLE, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, and REDSTART April 25, and OVENBIRD, YELLOW WARBLER, and BLUE-WINGED WARBLER April 26. INDIGO BUNTING arrived in Pottersville April 23, BLACK-THROATED GREEN and MAGNOLIA WARBLER and OVENBIRD were at the Delaware Water Gap April 24.

At Great Swamp, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, OVENBIRD, N. WATERTHRUSH, PARULA, and PRAIRIE WARBLERS were in April 25, and WHITE-EYED VIREO, OVENBIRD, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, and REDSTART April 26. BLUE-WINGED TEAL arrived at Watchung Lake on April 25.

The Parvin State Park trail is flooded; Bull's Island has had high water, preventing access to both ends of the island. The PACIFIC LOON at Manasquan Inlet was not reported to the tape this week.
