Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 6/27/2002
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Thursday June 27, 2002 with reports of WHITE-FACED IBIS, GOLDEN-WINGED and KENTUCKY WARBLERS, VESPER SPARROW, WILSON'S STORM-PETREL, BROWN PELICAN, seasonal and local reports of interest.

A WHITE-FACED IBIS was seen at Brigantine NWR June 26. The bird was near the dog-leg on the north dike, around the northeast corner of the west pool. The bird has obvious red legs and some reddish skin around the eye but lacks the white face.

The Pequannock Watershed featured GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER at the Van Orden Rd. power line cut, a WORM-EATING just downhill, PURPLE FINCH at the spruce grove by Clinton Reservoir Dam, multiple BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, BLACKBURNIAN, CHESTNUT-SIDED, and HOODED WARBLERS along Clinton Rd. June 22.

D&R Greenway's McBurney Woods, along Mountain Rd. in East Amwell Township had KENTUCKY and WORM-EATING WARBLERS June 23 (DeLorme P. 41, A24). Nearby Orchard Road near Linvale had GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and BOBOLINK.

Two VESPER SPARROWS continued at Oberly Rd. in Alpha June 23.

A belated report of GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS, SAVANNAH SPARROWS and BLUE GROSBEAK came from Clover Hill Rd. in Raritan Township June 16.

Three WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS were viewed from SHBO's front porch in the bay June 26. Unusual was a RED-THROATED LOON at the hook June 23. Other WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS were found at Manasquan Inlet and seven BROWN PELICANS were off Spring Lake this week.

Birds seen at Troy Meadows this week included LEAST BITTERN, VIRGINIA RAIL, SORA, and RED-SHOULDERED HAWK.

Bull's Island State Park had two YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS, NORTHERN PARULA, BANK SWALLOWS and CLIFF SWALLOWS June 23.

A BONAPARTE'S GULL was found June 22 at Island Beach State Park.
