Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 6/7/2000
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed June 7 with reports of Review List SWALLOW-TAILED KITE, and reports of migrants and local breeding birds.

The SWALLOW-TAILED KITE seen May 28 at the Watchung Reservation by three different sets of observers was seen again on June 4 from Glenside Ave parallel to Rte 78 between exits 44 and 45. This may be worth checking--a kite lingered in the 80's at Greenbrook Sanctuary for a week or so at this same time of year.

Sandy Hook on June 1 had 12 warblers including MOURNING; also ACADIAN FLYCATCHER and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO; SWAINSON'S THRUSH was also there during the week as well as Red Knot.

Brigantine (Forsythe) NWR May 31 had 3000 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, DOWITCHERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, YELLOWLEGS and DUNLIN. An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was in a flock of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS. No further sightings of the BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCK.

A pair of PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS are resident at Blackwells Mills; they were present May 29 thru June 2.

At Whittingham Wildlife Mgmt. Area, June 3, a bird singing BLUE-WINGED WARBLER and GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER songs was heard and not seen. A PIED-BILLED GREBE was singing June 3 in the marsh at the north end of Paulinskill Lake (Parson Rd and Junction Rd); also there LEAST FLYCATCHER.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was drilling in pine trees in the campground just across the road from Kittle Field in Stokes SF.

A BALD EAGLE was over Randolph June 4. A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER was at Merrill Creek June 5.

A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER appeared to be on territory June 3 between P3 and P4 on Clinton Road. In the same area, a BLUE-HEADED VIREO was seen taking an egg from a nest (predation?). A BLACKBURNIAN nest was also observed on Clinton Road, also June 3.
