Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 7/1/1998
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed, July 1 with reports of BROWN PELICAN, LITTLE GULL, SHEARWATERS, KING RAIL, ALDER FLYCATCHER, DICKCISSEL and other grassland birds, seasonal reports and local reports of interest.

A pelagic trip off Cape May last week had SOOTY SHEARWATERS, CORY'S SHEARWATERS, GREATER SHEARWATERS and MANX SHEARWATERS. PELICANS are being reported from the coast in ones and twos.

Three LITTLE GULLS were still at South Amboy at Morgan June 25.

The KING RAIL was reported again at the Hillside Av. bridge in Chester at Black River. Three young birds that were probably Kings were also reported during the week. Nearby, the ALDER FLYCATCHER is on the railroad bed about one mile near the birches.. Other birds at Black River include VIRGINIA and SORA RAILS, and WILLOW FLYCATCHER.

DICKCISSEL is still feeding young at Brightview Farm off Rte 545 in Burlington County. Also there are GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and BOBOLINK. From the intersection of Rtes. 545 and 537, take 545 north a short distance to the farm entrance on the right. Park at the Y where the logbook is on the fence. Please record your sightings.

KENTUCKY and HOODED WARBLERS are in the barberry at the Cross Estate section of Morristown National Historical Park off Jockey Hollow Road behind Scherman-Hoffman. GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERS are on the power line crossing on Clinton Road in West Milford, north of Rte. 23. CERULEAN and PARULA WARBLERS are in evidence along Old Mine Road between Worthington and Depew. RAVENS are at the Delaware Water Gap and also at High Point State Park.
