This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday July 19, 2012 with reports of BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK, WHITE-FACED IBIS, AMERICAN AVOCET, SANDWICH TERN, DICKCISSEL, and seasonal and local reports of interest.

Two BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCKS were found near the gull pond tower at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR Jul 14-15. A WHITE-FACED IBIS continues at ?Brig? through Jul 14. Other birds of interest at Brig this week included an AMERICAN AVOCET in the northwest pool Jul 16, four thousand SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 25 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 10 STILT SANDPIPERS Jul 15, a male WILSON?S PHALAROPE in the southwest pool Jul 14, and a continuing male DICKCISSEL along the gull pond/experimental pool/south dike area through Jul 15.
The Morgan Ave Mudflats (South Amboy) hosted an AMERICAN AVOCET Jul 13. A SANDWICH TERN was found there Jul 13-14. A GULL-BILLED TERN and CASPIAN TERN were noted there Jul 13 and an out-of-season RED-THROATED LOON was photographed there this week. The Negri-Nepote Grasslands in Franklin Twp continue to host at least one DICKCISSEL through Jul 13; also there were GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and BLUE GROSBEAK. For more information about birding this area see
