This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for Thursday July 26, 2012 with reports of WILSON?S STORM-PETREL, LEAST BITTERN, AMERICAN AVOCET, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, DICKCISSEL, seasonal and local reports of interest.

Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR had 19 species of shorebirds this week including an AMERICAN AVOCET in the southwest pool Jul 22, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT near the dog-leg through Jul 23, 28 WHIMBRELS, 10+ WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 20 STILT SANDPIPERS, and 20+ LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Also at Brig this week were 10 LITTLE BLUE HERONS, YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 7 species of terns including 3 CASPIAN TERNS, ROYAL TERN, and a BLACK TERN in Turtle Cove; 100+ BLACK SKIMMERS, and 3 BLUE GROSBEAKS.
Two ROSEATE TERNS were seen at the North Brigantine Natural Area Jul 22-23.
Sandy Hook sightings this week included 7 WILSON?S STORM-PETRELS and 33 PIPING PLOVERS at the end of the fisherman?s trail Jul 23, RED KNOT and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at the tidal cut Jul 22, three LEAST BITTERNS in North pond Jul 22, and ?unseasonal? RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and WHITE-THROATED SPARROW Jul 22.
Finderne Wetlands hosted a LEAST TERN Jul 21.

Highlights at the Allendale Celery Farm this week included 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and a DICKCISSEL. Also in Bergen County at the DeKorte Environment Center were STILT SANDPIPER, CASPIAN TERN, and a BARN OWL was seen along Valley Brook Dr on the evening of Jul 23.
