Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 7/5/2001
This is the Voice of New Jersey Audubon for July 5 with reports of Review List WHITE-FACED IBIS and HENSLOW'S SPARROW, as well as ROSEATE TERN, other grassland species, and seasonal and local reports.

The WHITE-FACED IBIS at Brig was reported again June 28 in the NW corner, west pool.

An adult ROSEATE TERN and one BLACK TERN have been frequenting the bayside sandbars at Island Beach. Park at A-21 and walk to the kayak launch at Winter Anchorage. The sandbars are south of the launch area. These birds were reported July 1 and 2 respectively.

A HENSLOW'S SPARROW has been singing at the Willowwood Arboretum, first field, and is being seen on the weed tops regularly. Reach Willowwood Arboretum from 206 via 512 west toward Pottersville and follow the signs to Willowwood. Park in the lot beyond and walk back. [On July 4 the bird had moved across the road and closer to the parking area. -transcriber's note] This is the third HENSLOW report in June-July, the others being Oberly Rd. and Lakehurst Air Station (restricted).

Birds at Oberly Road, Alpha this week included VESPER SPARROW, GRASSHOPPER and SAVANNAH SPARROWS, DICKCISSEL and MEADOWLARK. There was no report this week of HENSLOW'S at that location.

BOBOLINKS are at Hoffman Park in Pattenberg. Exit 78 at Pattenberg exit; take Baptist Church Road (parallel to 78 on the south side) east, follow it around to the right, and Hoffman Park is on the left (sign) in about half a mile. BOBOLINKS and MEADOWLARKS are also on 620 off 519 in Belvidere.

Seven BLACK SKIMMERS were at Kearny east in the Hackensack Meadowlands as of July 2.
