Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 8/12/2000
This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Tue Sep 12 with reports of Review List ANHINGA, SWAINSON'S HAWK and reports of BAIRD'S, BUFF-BREASTED and other SANDPIPERS, GOLDEN PLOVER, PHALAROPES, some early hawk watch reports, and local reports.

An ANHINGA was seen over Pleasantville, Atlantic Co., at 10 a.m. Sep 11 heading south.

At Sandy Hook Sep 11, at the northern tip in the west pool at the end of the Fisherman's Trail, there were 2 BAIRD'S and WHITE-RUMPED and LEAST SANDPIPERS.

At the Johson Sod Farms in Upper Deerfield, Cumberland Co., there were 68 GOLDEN PLOVER, 8 BUFF-BREASTED and one UPLAND SANDPIPERS and HORNED LARKS off Griers Lane (Rte 688) and off Olivet Lane.

At Brigantine (Forsythe) NWR Sep 9, on the NW dike, west pool, there was a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and two WILSON'S PHALAROPES, 175 WHITE-RUMPS, 75 STILT SANDPIPERS, at least 18 species of shorebirds overall, and a very large concentration of EGRETS feeding in the east pool. Also at Brig were ROYAL and CASPIAN and GULL-BILLED TERNS, PEREGRINE and MERLIN, and a pocket of WARBLERS in the cedars at the headquarters parking lot.

On the sod farms at Oil City Road on the state line at the Wallkill, there were GOLDEN PLOVERS and BAIRD'S and BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS this week.

At Chimney Rock Hawkwatch, for the week ending Sep 6, totals included 6 BALD EAGLES, 40 OSPREYS, and 17 warbler species on Sep 6.

A BALD EAGLE was seen this week at Johnson Park, Highland Park on the Raritan River off Rte 18.

Scotts Mountain Hawkwatch, for the 16 days ending Sep 11, recorded 54 OSPREY, 45 BALD EAGLE, 3 GOSHAWKS, 6 RED-SHOULDERS, 4 MERLIN, 2 SWAINSON'S HAWKS, 2 PEREGRINES and assorted other raptors and 93 HUMMERS.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD was at Harmony Pond Sep 11.
