This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Wed., Aug. 28 at noon with
reports of AUDUBON'S SHEARWATERS and CORY'S SHEARWATERS, BRIDLED TERN, SOUTH
POLAR SKUA, LONG-TAILED JAEGERS and PARASITIC JAEGERS, RED-NECKED
PHALAROPE, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, BLACK TERN, BROWN PELICAN,
UPLAND SANDPIPER and local reports.
A pelagic trip to Hudson Canyon Aug. 25 turned up BRIDLED TERN,
CORY'S and AUDUBON'S SHEARWATERS, SOUTH POLAR SKUA, PARASITIC and
LONG-TAILED JAEGERS, RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and WILSON'S STORM-
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen at Brig Aug. 23 and 24 on the
grass at south dike, west pool; other buff-breasts were 2 on
Herbert Rd. near Assunpink Aug. 26 and another at Allentown sod
farm Aug. 27. Four more were at Pole Tavern, Salem County Aug. 25,
along with 24 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, down from 68 uppies there on Aug.
19! This traditional staging area is at the intersection of Rtes.
77 and 40 and adjacent farms.
A BLACK TERN was at the end of Tuckerton Road Aug. 21, along with
a BROWN PELICAN. A BLACK TERN was also at Brig Aug. 21 and two were
seen there Aug. 22. Other birds there during the week included
WILSON'S PHALAROPE, STILT SANDPIPER, and BALD EAGLE.
