This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Tue Aug 3 with reports of Review
List WHITE IBIS, and reports of AVOCETS, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, MARBLED
GODWIT and seasonal SHOREBIRDS, BLACK TERN, BROWN PELICANS, local
reports and seasonal reports of interest.
An adult WHITE IBIS was at Whitebogs Sun Aug 1.; also there two BALD
EAGLES, 10 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, many YELLOWLEGS, 6 SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS; 100 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 2 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 100
LEAST SANDPIPERS; 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS and 20 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS; 38 GULL-BILLED TERNS and 3 COM. NIGHTHAWK. Shorebird
conditions are good there now.
UPLAND SANDPIPERS continue at Johnson Sod farm on Rte 77 near
Cumberland-Salem line. Some 6,000 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at
Mannington Aug. 1. Birch Creek Marsh off Rte 130 between Raccoon and
Oldman's creeks had hundreds of PEEP, 2 to 3 dozen PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, 58 GREAT EGRETS and a N. PINTAIL.
At Brigantine (Forsythe) NWR this week, 3 AVOCETS were there July 29;
on July 31, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT at the Gull Pond Tower, WHIMBRELS,
BARN OWL, 20 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 40,000 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 50
SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 1,000 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER and a STILT SANDPIPER;
a MARBLED GODWIT was at Brig Aug 2.
At Barnegat Light Aug. 2, there were 50 BROWN PELICANS, 2 BLACK
TERNS, and 2 N. GANNETS. At Wreck Pond, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT was
present July 29-30.
At Sandy Hook July 31, two BROWN PELICANS were in Spermaceti cove
with 2 ROYAL TERN, a WHIMBRELS and 12 OYSTERCATCHERS; at North Pond
there were 2 LEAST BITTERNS, 2 BLACK SKIMMERS, and a PECTORAL
SANDPIPER. At North Beach in the fenced pool, there were 12 PIPING
PLOVERS, 5 RUDDY TURNSTONES, a GOLDEN PLOVER, and a PECTORAL
SANDPIPER among other sandpipers.
The Lincoln Park gravel pits had (breeding) VIRGINIA RAILS July 29.
The Allendale Celery farm July 30 had N. WATERTHRUSH, SOLITARY
SANDPIPER and 20 GREAT EGRETS. A BALD EAGLE was in Somerset Aug 1. At
the Hackensack Meadows Environmental Center Aug 1, there were 55
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 20+ SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, 30+ FORSTER'S TERNS, thousands of SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS
and a few WESTERN SANDPIPERS.
