This is the voice of NJ Audubon for Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 12:30 PM with reports of CURLEW SANDPIPER, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, local reports, exotics, and an update on the WHISKERED TERN. "Whiskers" was reported at the Ted Harvey Wildlife Management Area in Delaware July 29 and 30 and Aug. 2. For updated information call the Delaware hotline. Also in Delaware, WHITE-WINGED TERN and WHITE IBIS. In New Jersey, the WHITE-FACED IBIS at Brigantine last week was not reported this week, but a CURLEW SANDPIPER was seen at the refuge on July 30 and Aug. 3 on the East dike of the East pool. Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were on the Columbus Sod Farms on Rt. 206 below Trenton with UPLAND SANDPIPERS. Fourteen STILT SANDPIPERS were among the Yellowlegs and Dowitchers at the Hackensack Meadowlands Env. Center in Lyndhurst on Aug. 2; also there, Little Blue Herons and a EUROPEAN GOLDFINCH, seen on thistles at the main parking lot Aug. 1. LEAST BITTERNS are being seen at Kearny Marsh near Hackensack; at Sandy Hook at the north pond; and at Bunker Pond in Cape May Point State Park. A Bonaparte's Gull was at Merrill Creek Reservoir this week. Bobolinks were widely reported migrating. Great Egrets were inland at Great Swamp and Assunpink among other places. An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was in Pool #1 of Great Swamp off Long Hill Rd. on Aug. 3. The Voice of NJ Audubon [(908) 766-2661] is a regular weekly report on birding in New Jersey.
