Voice of New Jersey Audubon - 9/14/1994
This is the voice of NJ Audubon for Wednesday, Sept. 14, 1994 at 6 PM with reports of WHITE-FACED IBIS, AVOCET, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, LARK SPARROW, CONNECTICUT WARBLER, PHILADELPHIA VIREO and seasonal birds. The NJ Bird Box is up and running again; check it for updates at (201) 983-9152. A WHITE-FACED IBIS was at Brigantine NWR Sept. 9, not seen Sept. 10 or 11. Also there, AMERICAN AVOCET, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, all Sept. 10. An AMERICAN AVOCET was also seen at Tuckerton Sat. afternoon Sept. 10 and Sunday morning Sept. 11. YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD continues in Cape May. A LARK SPARROW and a CONNECTICUT WARBLER were at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park Sept. 11, along the dirt road. Reach it from Interstate 95 off US 46 via Challenger Blvd. The LARK SPARROW was not there Sept. 15 [sic] but two CONNECTICUT WARBLERS were, one at the distant dirt piles, another at the sunflower patch in the southeast section. Sandy Hook Sept. 10 had 14 Warblers including WILSON'S WARBLER, lots of flycatchers including EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, WILLOW FLYCATCHER, GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, etc. At the Hook Sept. 11 were 14 Warblers including CONNECTICUT WARBLER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, as well as two AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS at Parking area K. Sept. 12, there were BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, CAPE MAY WARBLER and others at Plum Island, WILSON'S WARBLER at the garden and 3 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER at area K. Sept. 9 there were hundreds of COMMON NIGHTHAWKS over Boonton. The Voice of NJ Audubon [(908) 766-2661] is a regular weekly report on birding in New Jersey.
